Ely Cathedral, often known as The Ship of the Fens, is one of the great medieval buildings of England. Dating back to 1081, its remarkable architecture combines Romanesque and Norman influences, with the famous Octagon Tower and one of the longest cathedral naves in the country.
While photographing the cathedral, I was particularly drawn to the sweeping form of the choir stalls. From this perspective, their shape reminded me of the outstretched wings of a dragon, which inspired the title Viserion, after the dragon from Game of Thrones.
Fantasy has always been a strong influence on how I see the world, particularly through cinema and the video games I grew up with. I enjoy finding moments in real architecture that feel as though they belong to another world, and this was one of those moments.
Through a carefully composed series of photographs, I wanted to emphasise that sense of scale and movement, transforming the cathedral interior into something that feels almost mythical.
