Southwark Cathedral is one of London’s hidden architectural gems, nestled between the city’s historic streets and modern skyline, just moments from Borough Market, the Shard and Shakespeare’s Globe.
This photograph was taken during London Fashion Week, when all the seating had been removed from the cathedral for a fashion show. I was able to photograph the interior before the seats were returned, capturing the cathedral in an unusually open and uninterrupted state.
This artwork is dedicated to Doorkins Magnificat, the much loved resident cathedral cat. For twelve years, Doorkins was adored by staff and visitors alike and remains deeply missed. In this image, you can see him near the altar, walking towards the light.
Created from multiple photographs and meticulously composed into a single image, the artwork brings together the cathedral’s soaring architecture, intricate details and sense of scale from a perspective beyond a conventional photograph.
