Dating from the late 13th century, York Minster’s Chapter House is one of the great architectural spaces within the Minster. Its octagonal form is crowned by a remarkable vaulted ceiling, supported not by a central column but by timbers within the roof, an innovative engineering achievement for its time.
The Chapter House has been a place of significance for centuries, including serving as the setting for Parliament in 1297 when Edward I was in York. Today, it remains part of the life of the Minster, continuing its connection with the Chapter.
